A Summer Day/Night On the Town:
Golden Fields is the new offering from illustrious chef Andrew McConnell, and in its short life found kudos as The Age 2012: Best new restaurant. Focusing on Asian small plates and shared dishes the food is exciting, inventive and most importantly delicious. Found in St. Kilda the restaurant itself is chic yet accessible. Behind an imposing white marble counter the wall is lined with white industrial 1920s style tiles, quirky touches are expressed with Chicken feet adorning a wall, but otherwise it is quite a simplistic and contemporary fit out. With dishes like the New England Lobster roll- poached crayfish housed in a soft brioche style roll with watercress and Kewpie mayo, the Twice cooked duck with steamed bread and vinegar plum sauce and the slow roast salt pork, crackling, pickled cabbage and tamarind- it will surely be an enduring Melbourne hotspot.

The Sticky beak
Do you like Art but find the scene a little difficult to navigate? Are you a seasoned art lover but love the excitement of discovery? Walk to Art is for all sorts, starting in the Melbourne CBD with a cheeky wine, the tour is constantly changing week to week and takes you on foot through Melbourne’s lanes and streets to discover Artist studios, galleries and hotspots. The tour ends with some gourmet treats and more wine. Your guide is an art consultant and throughout you will be learning, chatting and exploring Melbourne’s exciting art scene. In the lead up to the New Year there are also special twilight tours running from 6-8pm. Go to www.walktoart.com.au for booking information and details.
If you would prefer to ‘fly solo’ and checkout some Art, perhaps the most accessible is the Laneway Commissions 2011. Running from now until 25th March 2012, this years commissions have an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander theme, as no applications from these communities had been made in the past. Spread over ten different locations in Melbourne’s laneways. Go to:www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/AboutMelbourne/ArtsandEvents/Pages/Lanewaycommissions.aspx For location maps, and more information.
Stay Cool this Summer! We look forward to welcoming you back to the Hatton.
